Hanukkah lamp

Hanukkah Menorah is a special candelabrum whose candles are lit up during the eight-day holiday of Hanukkah.
Hanukkah candelabrum made of bronze in the form of a bench with supporting legs. In the hanukkah candelabrum two lions are chased symmetrically on the both sides. Each of the lions holds a trunk of the date palm in the forelegs. The seven-branched candelabrum (menorah) is connected to the trunks with decorative chains. The upper part of this chanukiah is decorated with a crown below which there is a floral ornament in the form of grape twigs. The main candle holders are made in the form of cups in which the special high-purified oil is poured and wicks are put. A separate candle holder used for lighting up the other ritual candle holders – the shamash – is located on the top of the backrest along the central axis.

- This chanukiah was transferred from the museum in Berdychiv in 1959. It arrived to the museum in Berdychiv from the village Pohrebishche in Vinnytsya region.

- On the first day of the holiday of Hanukkah the wick of shamash and of the first candle on the right side are lit up with a special blessings. One more candle is lit up on each of the following days of the holiday of Hanukkah, till all the 9 candles will be burning on the eighth day of the holiday. It should be noted that the oil is poured and the wicks are put from the left candle holder to the right one, and the candles are lit up from the right candle holder to the left.

- 7 main candle holders and one "servant" candle holder, 1 screw and 3 nuts for fastening of the decorative parts of chanukiah are missing. This chanukiah is soiled, has abrasions, oxidation, scratches, deformation of the front part, partial deformation of the decorative elements.
